LK is taking her first ballet class at the tender age of 3 years old. She loves her leotard, tights, and shoes. Last week, she had a splendid time dancing in her first class.
Then, week 2…
Background information: Anyone who knows me knows that I HATE being late. The second I realize I’m possibly going to arrive late somewhere, my anxiety goes into high gear and I’m off to the races about how much the person is going to be disappointed or think I’m flaky or…
I left work early as usual to go pick her up to take her to class. I work at UT Austin, which is about 25-30 minutes from her school. Five minutes in, I entered the freeway and…standstill traffic.
After trying to call JJ six times to see if he could get her, I decided to call the dance center to let them know we would be late or not there at all. There was also some explicit language yelled at the universe because my 3 year old wasn’t going to be able to have the time of her life at ballet today. #firstworldproblems
Finally, the road cleared (someone had lost a ton of wood out of their truck, so at least no one was hurt) and I may or may not have driven above the speed limit. Some lady nearly killed us both by trying to come into my lane as we’re barreling 75 mph…she may or may not have been on the receiving end of a major road rage tantrum.
I raced into the school, yelled at LK that we had to go fast, and we ran out of there. Dance class started in 10 minutes; could we make it?
We arrived and very quickly put her dance clothes on. Whew, only a few minutes late!
After all that, she refused to dance.
So – “how to get your 3 year old to dance at ballet class?”
I have no idea.
